About Hand in Paw

Piper Wood

Founder and President

Piper grew up in Altadena, California, with a deep affinity for animals from the very beginning. Her family dog, an abused rescue, became her childhood best friend and helped shape her lifelong compassion for animals in need. From a young age, Piper found herself rescuing stray dogs from the street and caring for any animal that needed safety, patience, and healing.

Piper attended USC, where she studied Psychology. She later earned a master’s degree in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis, as well as a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Her professional path has been just as varied as it has been service-driven. She worked as a behavioral therapist for children and adults with autism, later became a police officer for the City of Glendale, earned a degree in Culinary Arts, and ran her own private chef and catering business for several years.

Through it all, animals have always remained closest to her heart. Hand in Paw is Piper’s lifelong dream, and she is deeply honored to lead such a meaningful and compassionate organization.

Piper is also an animal activist and vegan advocate, dedicated to fighting for the well-being of all animals. She lives in Monrovia, California, with her beloved rescue babies.
